I work both individually and as part of a team. Whenever more than one coach is needed then I work in partnership with others who have the same stance as me - a stance I outline below.
Solution focused approach
Perhaps most people's impression of what coaching is comes from a media inspired view - where the rich and famous surround themselves with an army of experts who direct them in the various situations they meet.
The approach used here is different in that it assumes you have the answers, the skills and abilities. It may simply be that you have got locked into one way of looking at things that has not provided you with the answers you need. What I do using this approach is to help identify the same abilities that have enabled you to achieve what you have so far and find different ways of applying them that work even better!
In summary you might expect to find these elements to this approach:-
An expertise on the part of the coach in helping you redefine the situation you are in
A stance where the coach helps move you closer to where you would like to be
The use of future oriented questions and techniques to help you reach your goals
A focus on the individual which then has impact on the world around in terms of
the way things change at work , organisationally or personally.
Solutions that come from your own world rather than any the coach may have - that process
of discovering your strengths and what works for you,and doing more of them
These will give you an idea of the way this approach differs from a perspective where the expertise and answers lie within the coach.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any more information about this approach.
